Reception - Fawns Class
Welcome to Fawns Class!
We are the reception class here at Sandon. Our class teacher is Miss Sawyer and on Tuesdays we are helped by Mrs Dear and Mrs Wilson, our lovely teaching assistants.
On our class page you will find updates on our learning and useful information. If you are a member of our school, please see ClassDojo for regular updates on what we have been doing in class and any new messages – reminders of important information and key dates are added here, so please check daily.
If you have any questions you are welcome to message Miss Sawyer via ClassDojo or admin@sandon.herts.sch.uk. Please note that pupil absence should always be reported to the office and not communicated via ClassDojo.
Our Curriculum
At Sandon JMI we want our children to be happy, secure and enjoy coming to school. Our EYFS curriculum is planned to incorporate the children's interests, as well as broaden their understanding, curiosity and love of the world around them. Curriculum topic planning is completed in advance of each half term, however daily activities, teaching, and learning are also led by the children’s interests. Our small class size enables us to give children lots of individual attention ensuring that every child makes good progress from their starting points and children’s individual needs are met.
A Day in Fawns Class
In the morning, children engage with 'busy fingers' (fine motor skills activities) and warm up dances to help us get ready for the day.
Our day consists of a mixture of adult-led sessions and child-initiated play (known to our children as 'busy learning'). In Fawns class we have a daily phonics session following Little Wandle, and maths sessions following White Rose planning. During the week we have a range of adult-led sessions such as Literacy, RE, PE, PSHE, music, and Understanding the World. During ‘busy learning’ children have the opportunity to play, create, and explore the world around us. Children have access to our well-resourced indoor and spacious outdoor areas to facilitate their learning.
We love to share stories together - 'The Ugly Five' by Julia Donaldson is a current favourite with the children.
Below you will find a summary of our key learning for this half term.
